Designer: create custom layouts for your screen

What is the Designer?

The Designer is a built-in tool for creating custom layouts for your screens. You combine images, text, shapes, and apps in a design, save it, and send it to one or more screens. No extra design software needed.

Create a new design

  1. Go to Files in the sidebar.
  2. Click New and choose New design.
  3. In the popup:

- Give your design a name.

- Choose the orientation: landscape (16:9) or portrait (9:16).

- Choose the resolution: HD (1920x1080) or 4K (3840x2160). Choose 4K only if your screens actually support 4K, otherwise HD is faster and uses less storage.

- Choose a template from the grid (see below) or start with a blank design.

  1. Click Create.

The Designer opens with your design ready to edit.

Templates by industry

The Designer includes 70 ready-to-use templates, organised by industry:

  • Retail: store promotions, opening hours, product highlights
  • Hospitality: daily menus, drink specials, ambience screens
  • Fitness: class schedules, motivation, gym rules
  • Office: welcome screens, meeting rooms, internal communication
  • Education: campus announcements, schedules, wayfinding
  • Healthcare: waiting rooms, instructions, patient information
  • Real Estate: property listings, opening hours

Each industry has multiple templates, in both landscape and portrait orientation. You browse through the templates per industry, pick the template that comes closest, and adjust the text, images, and colours to match your brand.

For help choosing the right template, see Templates by industry.

Edit a design

The Designer canvas works like a simplified design tool:

  1. Add elements: use the toolbar to add text, images, shapes, or apps (weather, clock, RSS feeds).
  2. Move and resize: click on an element to select it, drag to move, or pull the corners to adjust the size.
  3. Edit text: double-click on a text element to edit. Choose the font, size, weight, alignment, and colour.
  4. Brand colours and fonts: your brand fonts and colours appear in the colour and font pickers if you have set them up in Company settings.
  5. Layers: use the layers panel to bring elements forward or send them backward.
  6. Eyedropper: use the eyedropper in the colour picker to copy any colour from your screen (Chrome and Edge only).

Save and use

  1. In the top right, click Save.
  2. Your design is saved to your content library.
  3. From there you can:

- Push to screen: send it directly to one or more screens.

- Add to playlist: add it to a playlist.

- Schedule: show it at a specific time on a screen.

Designs work just like any other content item in Screenbird.

Tips

  • Start from a template: it is faster than starting from scratch, and you can always change anything.
  • Use your brand: first set up your fonts and colours via Company settings, then they are one click away in every design.
  • Use 4K only when needed: 4K designs are larger and load more slowly on slower devices.
