Photos and shapes in the Designer
Select a photo in the Designer and its tools appear in the properties panel on the right. Every change can be undone with Undo.
Remove the background
Click Remove background. Screenbird cuts out the main subject and puts it on a transparent background, so your design shows through around it. This works best for a product or a person against a calm background. The cut-out is saved as a new image. Click Restore original to bring back the original photo.
There is a daily limit per account. When you reach it, you can carry on the next day.
Crop and focus point
Under Scale, choose how the photo fills its box. Under Crop, click the point that should stay in view, such as a face or a product, and use Zoom to zoom in. The photo then stays well framed when you change the size of its box.
Shapes and frames
Under Shape, put the photo in a shape: a circle, an oval, an arch, a hexagon, a heart, a seal or one of the blobs. Use Stroke to draw a frame along the shape. With Set corners separately you round each corner of a rectangular photo on its own.
Soft edge
With Soft edge you let the photo fade out towards one side, or all around, so it blends into the background instead of ending in a hard line. Make sure text on top of the faded part stays easy to read.
Colors
- Adjustments: brightness, contrast, saturation, black and white, and hue.
- Duotone: gives the photo two colors, a dark and a light one, for example your brand color. Useful to give several photos the same look. Leave food in its own colors.
- Recolour: fills a logo or an image with a transparent background with one color, for example white on a dark background. For a JPG with a white background, remove the background first.
Blend and flip
With Blend you set how an element mixes with what lies beneath it, as in a photo editor. With Flip you mirror an element horizontally or vertically.
Shapes, lines and backgrounds
- Under Pattern, fill a shape with dots, stripes, checks and more. A shape can also get a gradient: linear, radial or conic.
- Lines and outlines can be Solid, Dashed or Dotted.
- Click an empty spot on the canvas to set the background. Under Texture you add a subtle texture such as paper, linen or chalkboard, and with Strength you set how strong it is. With a background photo you can set a focus point here as well.
Tip
A screen is read from a distance. Use these effects on one or two elements per design, and keep text large and in strong contrast with its background.
