Connect Power BI to Screenbird
What is Power BI?
Power BI is a business analytics tool by Microsoft that allows you to create interactive dashboards and reports. You can display Power BI dashboards on your Screenbird screens in real-time.
Prerequisites
- A Microsoft 365 account connected to Screenbird
- A Power BI subscription (Power BI Pro or higher)
- A Power BI workspace with dashboards or reports
Connect Power BI
- Go to Integrations in the sidebar
- Look for Microsoft 365 or Power BI
- Click Connect (if not already connected)
- Sign in with your Microsoft account
- Grant Screenbird permission to access your Power BI data
- You will be redirected back to Screenbird
Power BI is now connected to your Screenbird account.
Add a Power BI dashboard
- Go to Content in the sidebar
- Click on Add app
- Search for Power BI
- Click on Power BI
- Select the workspace containing your dashboard
- Select the dashboard you want to display
- Configure the settings:
- Auto-refresh: Enable automatic refresh of the dashboard
- Refresh rate: Set how often the dashboard updates (in minutes)
- Display mode: Full dashboard or specific report
- Click Add
The Power BI dashboard is now added to your content library.
Add a Power BI report
- Go to Content in the sidebar
- Click on Add app
- Search for Power BI
- Select the workspace containing your report
- Select the report you want to display
- Configure the settings:
- Auto-refresh: Enable automatic refresh of the report
- Refresh rate: Set how often the report updates
- Filter: Apply filters to the report if needed
- Click Add
The Power BI report is now added to your content library.
Recommended settings
For executive dashboards
- Auto-refresh: Enabled
- Refresh rate: Every 5-15 minutes
- Display mode: Full dashboard
- Filter: None (show all data)
For real-time metrics
- Auto-refresh: Enabled
- Refresh rate: Every 1 minute
- Display mode: Specific report or visualization
For static reports
- Auto-refresh: Disabled
- Refresh rate: N/A
- Display mode: Full report
Troubleshooting
Dashboard won't load
- Verify that your Microsoft account is connected
- Check that you have access to the dashboard in Power BI
- Verify that the workspace is shared with you
Dashboard is not updating
- Check the refresh rate setting
- Verify that auto-refresh is enabled
- Check if the data source in Power BI is updating
- Try refreshing manually in the Screenbird dashboard
I see a blank dashboard
- Make sure the dashboard has content
- Check your permissions in Power BI
- Try removing and re-adding the dashboard
I need to disconnect Power BI
- Go to Integrations
- Find the Power BI integration
- Click Disconnect
- All Power BI content will stop updating
- You can reconnect at any time

- Create Power BI dashboards specifically designed for display screens (wide format, large fonts)
- Use consistent color schemes that match your brand
- Update Power BI data sources regularly for real-time displays
- Test dashboards on your actual screen to verify readability
- Use multiple Power BI items in different playlists for rotation
