Connect VALD: sports leaderboards on your screen
What does the VALD app do?
With the VALD app, you put leaderboards from your VALD performance data straight onto your screens. Screenbird pulls the test results from your VALD account (ForceDecks and NordBord), ranks the players per team, and displays a clear leaderboard. That way your athletes see their own performance in the locker room, the hallway, or the gym.
The app automatically shows the tests and metrics your club actually measures. Does your club measure jump height, peak power, contraction time, or Nordic strength? Then exactly those options appear in the app, with the correct unit next to them. Metrics where a lower value is better (such as contraction time) are also ranked correctly, with the best athlete at the top.
What do you need?
You need two things:
- A VALD account that already contains test results (via ForceDecks or NordBord).
- Your own API credentials from VALD: a Client ID and a Client Secret.
You request these API credentials once from VALD. Send an email to support@vald.com and ask for "External API access" for your club. VALD delivers the Client ID and Client Secret within a few days.
Note: once VALD has delivered the credentials, you need to enter them in Screenbird within about 7 days. So do not wait too long to connect after receiving them.
Connecting VALD
- Go to Files in the sidebar.
- Click New and choose New app.
- Choose VALD Leaderboard from the app list.
- In the connection window, enter your Client ID and Client Secret.
- Choose your Region (for example Europe).
- Click Connect.
The connection applies per team. Only the team you connect with sees the VALD data. This keeps the performance data of, for example, your sports squad separate from other teams within your organization.
Creating a leaderboard
Once connected, you put together the leaderboard:
- Choose a group. You will see the groups that exist in your VALD account.
- Choose a test. You only see the tests your club actually has data for.
- Choose a metric. The most used metrics appear at the top under "Most used". You can also search by name.
- Choose a period. This can be a rolling window (for example, the best results from the last 30 days) or a fixed start and end date.
- Want to hide certain athletes? Turn on Exclude profiles and choose who to leave out.
- Save the leaderboard or send it directly to a screen.
A rolling window is usually the most convenient choice: the screen then stays up to date automatically without you having to adjust the dates each time.
Data refreshes automatically
You do not need to refresh anything manually. Screenbird pulls new results from VALD roughly every 30 minutes. A new test result is typically visible on your screen within about 5 minutes of that refresh.
Troubleshooting
"Connection failed"
Check that the Client ID, the Client Secret, and the selected region are all exactly correct. It is best to copy and paste the credentials so no spaces or characters get changed by mistake. Are the credentials older than 7 days? Then ask VALD for new ones.
The leaderboard is empty
This means there are no test results for the selected group in the selected period. Choose a longer period or a different group, or check in VALD whether any tests were taken for that group during that period.
