Connect VALD: sports leaderboards on your screen

You connect VALD inside the app itself: go to Files > New > New app, pick VALD Leaderboard and fill in your Client ID, Client Secret, and Region in the window. After that you pick a group, a test, and a metric, and the leaderboard is on your screen.

What you need

  1. A VALD account that already holds test results (ForceDecks or NordBord).
  2. Your own API credentials from VALD: a Client ID and a Client Secret. You request those from VALD once; that is their own request process and it can take longer than the rest of the setup.

Connect VALD

  1. Go to Files in the sidebar.
  2. Click New and pick New app.
  3. Pick VALD Leaderboard from the app list.
  4. Fill in Client ID and Client Secret.
  5. Under Region, pick the right region: Europe, North America, or Australia / Asia-Pacific.
  6. Click Connect.

The connection applies per team. Only the team you connect with sees the VALD data, so the data of, say, your squad stays separate from other teams in your organization.

Put a leaderboard together

  1. Under Group, pick a group from your VALD account.
  2. Under Test, pick the test, and under Metric the metric. You only see the tests your club actually has data for. The most used metrics are at the top under Most used; with Search metric... you search by name.
  3. Adjust Title if you want to. That title is suggested for you, based on the group, the test, and the metric.
  4. Under Period, pick a period: Rolling window with Number of days (default 30, anywhere from 1 to 365), or Fixed period with From and To.
  5. To keep certain athletes off the board, turn on Exclude profiles and pick who you leave out. With it off: All profiles in the group are shown.
  6. Save the app, or send it to a screen right away.

A rolling window keeps the screen current by itself, without you having to move the dates along.

Look and feel

  • Theme: light or dark.
  • Logo: upload a club logo (2 MB at most) or use a URL.
  • Layout: Podium + rotation, Podium + columns, or Columns. Podium + rotation is the starting value.
  • Rotation (sec) (only with Podium + rotation): default 8, anywhere from 3 to 60.
  • Number of columns (only with the column layouts): 1 or 2, default 2.

The app shows the tests and metrics your club measures itself, with the right unit alongside. Metrics where a lower value is better are ranked correctly too, with the best athlete at the top.

Data refreshes on its own

There is nothing for you to refresh by hand, which is why the app has no refresh field and no language field. As long as new results have come in recently, the screen checks for new data every 6 seconds; once nothing has changed for over an hour, that drops back to every 30 seconds. A new test result is therefore on the screen almost straight away.

Troubleshooting

The connection fails

You get: Could not connect. Check the Client ID, Client Secret and region. Copy and paste the credentials so no spaces or characters slip in. If it keeps failing, ask VALD for new credentials.

The app isn't available yet

If you see The VALD app is not yet enabled for your environment. Contact Screenbird. then Screenbird still has to enable the app for your environment. Contact Screenbird.

You aren't allowed to manage connections

You do not have permission to manage connections. Ask an admin or the owner for the Connections permission, or have them set up the connection. See Manage teams.

The leaderboard is empty

There are no test results for the group you picked in the period you picked. Pick a longer period or another group, or check in VALD whether any tests were done in that period.
