How do I pair a screen to Screenbird?

Start Screenbird on the device hooked up to your screen. The screen then shows a 6-character pairing code. In the dashboard, go to Screens, click Pair screen, enter that code, give the screen a name, and click Pair. The screen shows up in your overview and can receive content.

Step 1: start Screenbird on the screen

Install the Screenbird app on your device, or open player.screenbird.app in the device's browser. Which app goes with which device, and where to download it, is covered in Player apps per device.

As soon as Screenbird is running, the screen shows the pairing code. On most devices there is a QR code next to it: scan it with your phone and you land on the pairing page with the code already filled in. On Fire TV the QR code is deliberately left out (Amazon Appstore rules), so type the code over by hand.

The code stays valid for as long as the player sits on the pairing screen. The device stores the code and reports it again at intervals, so there is no rush and no new code turns up on its own. You only get a new code once the screen is unpaired or the device's storage is wiped.

Step 2: pair in the dashboard

  1. Go to Screens in the sidebar.
  2. Click Pair screen.
  3. Under How would you like to start?, pick I can see a pairing code. If the app still needs installing, pick Install the app first and follow the installation steps for your device.
  4. Type the code under Enter the pairing code and click Next.
  5. Enter a recognizable name under Screen name. A suggestion is already filled in.
  6. Click Pair.

The pairing code

The code is 6 characters long and mixes digits and letters. The letters I, L, O, and U are left out so you cannot mistake them for 1, 0, or other characters. Upper or lower case makes no difference.

Trouble pairing

*Invalid pairing code. Check the code and try again.* Check that you copied all 6 characters and watch out for the characters that never appear (I, L, O, and U).

No code on the screen. Check that the device has internet over Wi-Fi or ethernet. See Network requirements.

Replacing a device. To move an existing screen onto new hardware and keep all its settings, use Re-pair on that screen instead of pairing a new one. Detaching hardware is covered in Unpairing a screen.
