Show content on a screen temporarily

When you send something to a screen, pick Temporary and set an end time. The content starts playing right away and clears itself at that end time, after which the screen returns to the content or the schedule it already had. Handy for announcements, an event, or a deal of the day.

Send content temporarily

1. Go to Files in the sidebar.
2. Click the three dots on the item, or right-click it, and pick Send to screen.
3. In the Send to screen window, select one or more screens.
4. At the top, click Temporary.
5. Under End time, set the date and time it should stop. There are shortcuts for 5 min, 15 min, 1 hour, 8 hours, 1 day, and 1 week. The end time defaults to an hour from now.
6. For a file you can check Delete file after display, together with Skip trash if you want. Scale is set here too.
7. Click Send.

The end time has to be in the future and can go at most 90 days ahead. To show something longer than that, or on a repeating basis, use a schedule instead.

How a temporary send behaves

• The end time follows the screen's time zone. Content sent until 17:00 stops at 17:00 local time on every screen. If a screen has no time zone of its own, your company time zone applies.
• One temporary send per screen. A new temporary send replaces the previous one on that screen.
• A permanent send wins. If you afterwards send content as Permanent, the active temporary send on that screen is dropped.
• The end time lives on the server. Restarting the player changes nothing about it.
• Online screens only. A temporary send only works on screens that are online
• Not for schedules. A schedule can only be sent to a screen permanently.
• Not to locked screens. See Locking screen content.

See which screens have a temporary send

Go to Screens. In the Current content column, such a screen shows an orange dot with the name of the temporary content and the end time behind it.

Cancel a temporary send

1. Go to Screens and open the screen (Edit screen).
2. At the top you see the Temporary line with the name of the content and the end time.
3. Click the cross in that line: Cancel temporary content.

The screen goes straight back to the content under Current content.

Troubleshooting

The content keeps playing past the end time. Check the screen's time zone in Screen settings: the end time follows the screen's local time.

I cannot send anything temporarily. Check that the screen is online and that the content is not locked. Schedules can only be sent permanently, see Sending content to a screen.
