Share your laptop screen to a screen

You share your laptop screen either by clicking Share to this screen on the screen in the dashboard, or by putting the Screen Mirroring app on the screen and typing the code that appears there into your laptop. Both ways run in the browser, so there is nothing to install. The picture goes straight from your laptop to the screen and never passes through a server.

Method 1: take over from the dashboard

Handy when you are in the dashboard anyway.

1. Go to Screens in the sidebar.
2. Click the screen to open Edit screen.
3. Expand Advanced and find the Screen mirroring block.
4. Click Share to this screen.
5. Confirm with Share screen. This interrupts whatever is on the screen right now.
6. A new tab opens on your laptop. Click Share screen there and pick the screen, window or tab you want to show.

If the screen has sub-screens, you get a button for each one. That way you take over just that sub-screen and the others keep playing. See Sub-screens.

To stop, click Stop on your laptop. The screen goes back to its normal content.

Method 2: add the app to a screen

Handy when you share to the same screen often, or want it ready in advance.

1. Go to Files in the sidebar.
2. Click New and choose New app.
3. Pick the Screen Mirroring app and click Save.
4. Put the app on the screen with Send to screen.
5. The screen now shows the web address mirror.screenbird.app and a code of 6 characters.
6. On your laptop, go to that address, enter the code and click Connect.
7. Click Share screen and pick what you want to show.

App settings: Web address decides whether the web address is shown on the screen, and Theme and Language set the look and the language.

Sharing audio too

The Share audio option only shows up in Chrome and Edge. On Windows it shares the audio from your system, on a Mac only the audio from the tab you are sharing. Firefox and Safari do not have this option.

What you need

• A laptop or desktop. Screen mirroring does not work on a phone or tablet.
• Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
• No installation, everything runs in the browser.

Limits

• A session runs for 12 hours at most and then stops by itself.
• A code that goes unused expires after 10 minutes.
• If the connection drops, you can reconnect within 60 seconds without a new code.
• Only one person shares to a screen at a time. If someone else tries to connect, they get a message saying a share is already running.

Is it secure?

The picture goes encrypted and straight from your laptop to the screen. The server only helps both ends find each other and never sees your picture. A code can be tried 10 times at most, after which it is blocked. If you would rather nobody read the code off the screen, turn Web address off or use method 1.

Sharing does not work

• Some networks block a direct connection between devices, guest Wi-Fi or a corporate firewall for example. Try another network or contact your network administrator.
• A message saying the code was not found or has expired: read the code off the screen again, it stays valid for 10 minutes.
• A message saying someone is already sharing: ask that person to click Stop first.
