Playlist settings: scaling, transition, and play duration

There are two ways into a playlist's settings: right-click the playlist under Playlists and choose Settings, or open the playlist and click the gear icon at the top right of the editor. The Playlist settings dialog is where you set the name, scaling, transition, transition speed, and default play duration.

Opening the settings

Go to Playlists in the sidebar.
Right-click the playlist and choose Settings. Or open the playlist and click the gear icon at the top right.
Adjust the settings and click Save. Cancel closes the dialog without saving.

At the bottom of the dialog you also get Preview, which lets you watch the playlist with the settings you picked before you save.

Scale

Determines how each item is shown on the screen:

Fill: the item fills the whole screen and may be cropped.
Fit: the item fits entirely on the screen, possibly with black bars.
Stretch: the item is stretched until it fills the screen.
Original: the item is shown at its original size.

New playlists start on Fit. Playlists you created earlier keep the value they already had.

Transition

The effect the playlist uses to move to the next item. There are eight options:

None (starting value)
Fade
Slide from right
Slide from left
Rotate
Flip
Gallery
Zoom in

Transition speed

How quickly that transition runs: Fast, Normal, or Slow. Normal is the starting value.

Default duration

The play duration that applies to items without a duration of their own. Enter it as seconds or as minutes and seconds, so 90 and 1:30 mean the same thing. The default is 10 seconds, and anything longer than 24 hours is not allowed.

Apply to all items sets this duration on every item in the playlist at once.

Setting the orientation

Orientation no longer sits with the playlist, but with the screen, since it is a property of the hardware. You set it in the screen settings, with Landscape or a rotation of 90, 180, or 270 degrees. See Screen settings.
