A low-cost player, set up with one command

A Raspberry Pi makes a low-cost signage player. Install Raspberry Pi OS with desktop, run the Screenbird installer once, and from then on the Pi opens the Screenbird player full screen every time it starts.

Requirements: Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 (4GB+ recommended) running Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit) with desktop
Recommended: For 4K content: Raspberry Pi 5. The Pi 4 (4GB+) works well for 1080p.

How to install

Install Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit) with desktop using Raspberry Pi Imager, then start the Pi and connect it to the internet

On the Pi, open Terminal and paste this command

curl -sL https://media.screenbird.app/downloads/screenbird-rpi-setup.sh | bash

When the installer says Done, restart the Pi

The Screenbird player opens full screen with a pairing code. Enter it in your dashboard

Prefer to download the installer first? Open this page on the Pi, click Download at the top, then run bash "$(xdg-user-dir DOWNLOAD)/screenbird-rpi-setup.sh" in Terminal.

Frequently asked questions

Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB or 8GB) and Raspberry Pi 5, running Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit) with desktop. The Lite version without a desktop is not supported. Older models (Pi 3 and below) are not recommended due to performance.
Yes. The installer turns on automatic login, switches off screen blanking, and adds the Screenbird player to the desktop's startup. After a power cut or a restart, the Pi goes straight back to your content, and if the player ever crashes, it restarts on its own.
Yes. You manage all content from the Screenbird dashboard, so after setup you never need to touch the Pi.
Run the installer again with --uninstall added, then restart. It removes everything the installer set up, and the Pi starts to the normal desktop again.

No app needed? Screenbird also runs directly in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and any other modern browser. Just open the URL on your screen.
