Digital signage for Fire TV Stick

We strongly recommend the Amazon Signage Stick. It runs only one app and nothing else, so there are no other apps, update prompts or "new movies and shows" notifications on a screen that should stay stable. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max also works and is the best of the regular Fire TV Sticks for 24/7 use, but it is a consumer streaming device with a lot more running on it. Avoid Fire TV Sticks released from 2025 onwards (4K Select, HD 2nd gen, 4K 3rd gen): they run Vega OS and cannot run Screenbird. Older Lite and HD models work for simple content, but quickly run into memory and CPU limits with multiple zones, video, or frequent transitions.

Fire TV Sticks released from 2025 onwards (Fire TV Stick 4K Select, Fire TV Stick HD 2nd gen and Fire TV Stick 4K 3rd gen) run Amazon's new Vega OS instead of Fire OS. Vega OS does not run regular Android apps, so Screenbird does not appear in the Amazon Appstore on these sticks. Use an Amazon Signage Stick, a Fire TV Stick 4K Max, a Google TV Streamer or another Android TV device instead.

Yes. Screenbird can be set to launch automatically on boot, so you never see the Fire TV interface.

The Stick gets its clock from the internet at startup. If the network blocks that, it starts on a date months in the past, and with a wrong date every secure connection is refused, so the screen stays offline even though it has internet. Allow ftv-smp.ntp-fireos.com (resolves to time.aws.com) over UDP port 123, plus firetvcaptiveportal.com, fireoscaptiveportal.com and kindle-time.amazon.com over TCP port 80, not intercepted. Port 80 is required even when UDP 123 is open, and a sign-in captive portal on the network makes the clock unreliable.
