The verdict

Screenbird and OptiSigns both make digital signage easy to run. The difference is what happens after the sticker price: Screenbird puts everything, proof of play, the Google and Microsoft data apps, EU data hosting, and live screen mirroring, on one plan at EUR 12 per screen per month billed annually. The price you see is the price you pay.

OptiSigns is a widely used, well-reviewed platform with a real free tier. Its catalog is spread across six plans and paid add-ons, though: proof of play starts at Pro, the data apps at Pro Plus, EU data hosting at Engage, and screen mirroring costs an extra USD 18 per screen per month on top of any plan. If you would rather buy one plan than shop through six, Screenbird is the simpler choice.

Screen mirroring: included vs. a paid add-on

Screenbird includes live screen mirroring on every plan, from any desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari), with no extra app or hardware to buy. The connection is peer-to-peer: someone in a meeting room or classroom shares their laptop screen straight to the TV in a few clicks, and the video stream never passes through Screenbird's servers.

No OptiSigns plan includes screen mirroring. It is sold as the AeriCast add-on at USD 18 per screen per month billed annually (USD 20 monthly), on top of whatever base plan you already pay for. Do the math from their own pricing page: Pro Plus plus AeriCast comes to USD 31.50 per screen per month billed annually, while Screenbird's EUR 12 already has mirroring in it. Note that OptiSigns' "Virtual Screen" app is a remote preview of what a screen is playing, not mirroring, and that AeriCast Meet, the add-on's video-conferencing variant, does not work on Android players and needs a Windows-class device.

If walk-up laptop sharing is part of how your screens get used, this line item changes the whole price comparison.

Pricing and feature access

Screenbird charges one flat rate per screen, EUR 12 per screen per month billed annually (EUR 15 billed monthly), with every feature included from day one: screen mirroring, split screen, scheduling, proof of play, and the full app catalog. There is no higher tier to unlock more capability, so the price you see is the price you pay as you scale.

OptiSigns runs six tiers, from a free plan through Standard (USD 9), Pro (USD 11.25), Pro Plus (USD 13.50), and Engage (USD 27) to Enterprise (USD 40.50, minimum 25 screens), all per screen per month billed annually with roughly 10 percent added for monthly billing. The free tier is real and generous for its price: 3 screens, 1 GB of storage, and 25 apps, with an OptiSigns watermark on screen and without schedules or split screen.

The ladder matters once you need specific capabilities, per their own pricing table: proof of play starts at Pro, the Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace integrations and the Power BI, Salesforce, and Looker dashboard apps start at Pro Plus, the Interactive Kiosk Designer sits in Engage, and on-premise deployment and mass provisioning are Enterprise. On Screenbird, the equivalent data apps (Google Sheets, Google Slides, Power BI, and more) and proof of play are included on every plan.

Global fit: languages and where your data lives

Screenbird's dashboard ships in 15 languages, and the platform runs on EU infrastructure (Supabase's EU regions together with Cloudflare) as the standard for every customer, so account and screen data stay in the EU without asking for it.

OptiSigns' dashboard is available in 8 languages (English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Swedish, Italian, and Dutch, on all plans, though not yet in their mobile admin app). Its data is stored in the US by default, on AWS in Northern Virginia and Digital Ocean in New York; EU data residency, in regions like Frankfurt and Amsterdam, is available on request for Engage and Enterprise customers, with pricing not published.

For a European organization with data-locality requirements, that difference means the OptiSigns conversation starts at its Engage tier and a sales thread, while on Screenbird it is simply how the platform already works.

When OptiSigns is the better fit

You want a free forever plan: 3 screens with 1 GB storage and 25 apps, watermarked, with no credit card required.
You want the biggest possible app marketplace (140+ apps) and very broad hardware support, from their own sticks and players to Raspberry Pi, BrightSign, ChromeOS, Apple TV, and Samsung and LG screens.
You want a platform with a large public review history: 4.8 stars on Capterra across more than 4,500 reviews.

When Screenbird is the better fit

You want live screen mirroring included, not an add-on that costs more per screen than the base plan itself.
You want every feature, including proof of play, on one plan with no six-tier ladder to climb.
You need EU data hosting as the standard, not an on-request option gated to the higher tiers.
Your team works across more languages: the Screenbird dashboard ships in 15, OptiSigns' in 8.

Moving from OptiSigns to Screenbird

Switching platforms does not mean replacing your screens. Here is what it actually takes.

1

Keep your existing screens

Screenbird works on the Fire TV and Android media players many OptiSigns setups already use, or on any device with a modern browser. No new hardware required to start.

2

Bring your content over

Upload your existing images, videos, and playlists into Screenbird's file library and rebuild your playlists in minutes.

3

Pair and go live

Pair each screen with a short on-screen code from the dashboard, push your first playlist, and it's live.
