Screenbird and Play Digital Signage sit in the same budget-friendly corner of the market. The difference is what comes with the price: Screenbird puts everything, analytics and proof of play, screen power control, a dashboard fully translated into 15 languages, EU hosting for every customer, and live screen mirroring, on one plan at EUR 12 per screen per month billed annually. The price you see is the price you pay.
Play is a genuinely strong budget option, with a forever-free single screen and no published storage caps on any plan. Its features climb a ladder, though: analytics and proof of play arrive only at Ultimate, several controls are reserved for paid plans, and where your data lives follows the signup location of your first team member. If you would rather buy one plan with everything on it than track what each tier includes, Screenbird is the more complete package at the same order of price.

Screen mirroring: included vs. not published
Screenbird includes live screen mirroring on every plan, from any desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari), with no extra app or hardware to buy. The connection is peer-to-peer: someone in a meeting room or classroom shares their laptop screen straight to the TV in a few clicks, and the video stream never passes through Screenbird's servers.
Play Digital Signage has no published live screen mirroring feature: its full pricing feature table lists no mirroring, casting, or screen-share capability, and its Chromecast and AirPlay guides cover setting up that hardware to play signage content, not sharing a laptop screen to it.
If walk-up laptop sharing matters to how your screens get used, that difference is worth weighing before the price comparison even starts.
What the Free and Essential tiers leave out
Screenbird has one plan, EUR 12 per screen per month billed annually (EUR 15 billed monthly), with everything on it: screen mirroring, analytics and proof of play, screen power control, split screen, scheduling, and the full app catalog.
Play's ladder runs Free, Essential (USD 8), Pro (USD 12), and Ultimate (USD 16) per screen per month, with 10 percent off billed annually. Per their own pricing table, the Free plan leaves out API access, screen on/off power control, slide conditions, screen sync, alerts and emergency messaging, and screen capture; and analytics with proof of play, the dashboard, and the audit log arrive only at Ultimate, so they are missing from Free, Essential, and Pro. Play's support docs also note that detailed analytics reports are retained for three months.
None of that makes Play a bad deal, its free single screen is one of the best entry offers in the category. It means the like-for-like plan against Screenbird is Ultimate at USD 16, where the remaining differences are mirroring, languages, and hosting rather than price.
EU hosting: contractual vs. conditional
Screenbird runs on EU infrastructure (Supabase's EU regions together with Cloudflare) for every customer, regardless of who signs up from where. It is how the platform works, not a variable.
Play does operate EU servers (Amsterdam and Frankfurt), and teams that sign up from the EU are hosted there. But per Play's own privacy policy, the location is decided by the first signup: "If the first user on the team signs up from a US-based IP address, then that team's data is gonna be stored exclusively on US servers."
For most teams that never matters. For an organization with a data-locality requirement, the difference is that on Play, EU hosting depends on a signup detail, while on Screenbird it holds for every account by design.
